Eritrean - Kaleb right on track for QPH

DANNY Kaleb smashed his 800m personal best to help Queen's Park Harriers consolidate their place in the McCain Young Athletes League.

Kaleb, competing in the under-15 boys' section, took six seconds off his previous best to win the race in two minutes 24 seconds, as well as finishing third in the 80m hurdles (15.1).

There was also a personal best and third place for QPH team-mate Zaki Badawi, who clocked 14.1 in the 100m and came fifth in the 200m with a pb of 28.7.

Campbe Zizai scored valuable points in the B string sprints, finishing fifth in the 100m (15.8) and fourth in the 200m (32.8), while debutant Kamal Mitchell came third in both the B 800m and 80m hurdles.

Sequan Scott achieved two pbs in the under-13 boys' events, clocking 13.4 in the 100m and 28.9 in the 200m, while there was also a best time of 13.8 for Ned Costello in the B string 100m.

Costello also took third place in the long jump (3.68m), while George Young - competing in the field events for the first time - finished fourth in the shot put (5.88m).

Another newcomer, Adi Bubahar Bello, threw 5.08m to take third place, as well as finishing fourth in the high jump (1.10m) and third in the B string 800m (3:05.6).

QPH also scored well in the middle distance events, with Aba Tedros winning the 1,500m in 6:27.8, and Joe Menare taking two seconds off his pb as he led from gun to tape to take the 800m in 2:32.3.

Ladeesha Gamage was the stand-out performer for QPH in the under-13 girls' events, winning the 200m (31.7) and taking second place in the 300m (51.4).

In the under-17 boys' section, Shaquille Roper ran for the first time this season and equalled his 100m pb of 12.4 to finish third, as well as taking fourth place in the 200m (25.4).
