Borderless Solidarity: Eritrea Donates Relief Money to Japan

EritreaCompass Editorial: Borderless Solidarity, Eritrea Donates Relief Money to Japan

“In response to the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Government of the State of Eritrea made a donation of 50,000 US dollars (approximately 4 million yen) as relief money for Japan. From Eritrea, letters and messages of sympathy were sent from H.E. Mr. Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of Eritrea and H.E. Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Eritrea and others.

The Government of Japan deeply appreciates assistance extended by the Government of Eritrea and its people.” Source Japan – Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The idea that a young and self sufficient nation that is only 20 years old extends its support to one of the most developed and wealthiest nations is a demonstration of solidarity by the government and people Eritrea.

The donation of relief money extended by the government of Eritrea is a symbolic one. This gesture not only represents the good intentions of the government and people of Eritrea, but also represents as a common denominator on how human beings should conduct themselves at times of great difficulty.

Moreover this is not the first time the Eritrean government has extended its solidarity to a much wealthier country. In 2008 the government of Eritrea made a similar gesture to China after the Great Sichuan Earthquake disaster.

Reinforcing relation with its partners has always been a priority to the Eritrean government aimed at establishing stronger humanitarian, political, economical, and social ties.

This can only be regarded as the commitment on Eritrea’s side to the betterment of human development, not only at national or regional level but also at a global level.

By any imagination that we can measure such gesture, it can only leave you feeling there is humanity out there.
But even more to all Eritreans who despite spending 50 years chasing justice and equal respect for their views.
so I welcome the world [with Eritrea in it] who can only be a better place with respects to Eritrea's mature handling of her international responsibilitie s
May the Japanese get all the help they deserve for they have always remained humble in other nations disasters and trained many rescue operators.
