EritreaCompass Editorial: 2011 - Twenty Years of Pride Starts to Pay Off

The Eritrean armed struggle for independence can be described as the first chapter of history and documentation of how people that have been betrayed, neglected, used and abused by the worlds super powers can rise to building the perfect nation in the face of adversity.

The second chapter for Eritrea is the building of a clean nation, just as the days of the armed struggle the people and government of Eritrea have been working hard hand in hand for the past twenty years.

One area that Eritrea has made strong progress is the management of resources and ensuring that the Eritrean people get a fair share of their resources.

The first pour of gold at BishaThe year 2011 for Eritrea has meant that Nevsun Resources, which is building the first modern gold mine in Eritrea, has poured the first gold at its Bisha operation. The first pour took place during the plant commissioning process and rendered two dore bars totalling 26 kg. According to Nevsun, in the coming months Bisha will continue to substantially show growth, in terms of reserves and throughput. Bisha is expected to produce 450 000 oz of gold in its first year of commercial production.

The great news of the first gold production in Eritrea is one of the blessings of the enormous resources that Eritrea is endowed with, but the true potential of Eritrean resources still lies in its human resource. Recognising that resources such as gold and oil on their own cannot make a nation strong, the youth should continue to play their social purpose and stay with their aim, vision, and hard work of building a strong nation for the coming generation.

It is therefore the sole responsibility of every Eritrean youth worldwide to take ownership and equip themselves with the adequate skills to owning the technology and know-how to build our own world-class companies that are capable of extracting mines, both inside the country and abroad.

This should also be replicated in other areas such us Agriculture, Education, Health, Construction, Media, and much more to build the perfect nation of knowledge with the good governance that the Eritrean people are blessed with.

The hard won independence had brought out the best of the Eritrean people and their ingenuity not only achieved independence but also brought about the emancipation of mental slavery. It was a result of the popular peoples movement, which had only depended on the people of Eritrea that carved a set of thinking for getting things done the Eritrean way.

It is with high expectation that Eritrea is going to celebrate its 20 years of independence anniversary, with its tenacious youth maintaining the same speed, effort, vigor, intensity, and rate of advance for economic emancipation to achieve all round freedom.

Victory to good governance!

Victory to the unrelenting people, specially the gallant youth of Eritrea!

Happy Eritrean New Year!
